remember this stack of paper i blogged about 2 posts ago?

after roughly 1400 passes through the press, 600 pearl or rhinestone embellishments, and 200 paper flowers later, here was the end result…

tangent tuesdays: i’m back

to my handful of loyal readers, i’m back!
the hubby and i were in costa rica the past week in celebration of 5 fantastic years of marriage! in costa rica, we mingled with the monkeys, zip-lined through the rain forest, boiled in the hot springs, drank too much coffee, ate too much food, and came back a tad heavier and a shade darker!
seeing that the husband and i just celebrated our anniversary, i have decided to dedicate today’s post on the top 10 reasons why i love my husband {here’s the catch, letterpress related}…
10. he drives me everywhere: he does not like me going to check out letterpress goods by myself so, he’s driven me to random, rural midwest cities- loves park, il, atlanta, il, mt. pleasant, iowa, and bishop hill, il just to name a few
9. he likes to get dirty: he goes in musty basements and abandoned shacks and handles dusty to greasy equipment for me
8. he does a lot of heavy lifting: 1500 pounds of cast iron. enough said.
7. he coordinates the rentals of forklifts, trailers, and even manpower
6. he likes to play letterpress legos: he is currently trying to put together a dismantled press for me and is my technical guru for tightening bolts and tweaking parts
5. he’s my personal shopper: he carries letterpress type, boxes of envelopes, etc. at sales so that my hands are free to rummage through all the goodies
4. he likes to share: he let me have the spare room and a third of our garage to store all of my letterpress treasures
3. he is helpful: when i am in a crunch, he is always ready to help me cut paper, add an embellishment, or stuff envelopes
2. he shares in my happiness: when i land a good deal for a press or ink or used type, he is just as excited as i am
1. and the number one reason why i love my husband {letterpress related}… he’s my #1 fan: he has been so, so, so unbelievably supportive with my letterpress endeavour! supportive in every way.
go hubby, cheers to you… and cheers to all of the spouses, significant others, children, family members, friends, etc that support that special someone in doing that special something!!!

mommy mondays: lettra 220 lb.

this is what i did this weekend…

i attacked this huge stack of paper. fittingly, this post is under the mommy mondays theme because the paper, crane’s lettra cover 220 lb paper, is the MOTHER of all paper! the stack on the top is crane’s lettra 110 lb paper, still deliciously thick, but the stack on the bottom is 2 ply– so thick and luxurious that the paper alone makes a statement.

i also completed a few flat printed projects too.

like these giveaway tags for these invitations

these butterfly invitations for a first birthday party…
and finally, these bridal shower invitations…
variations of these custom invitations will soon be offered in my etsy shop!
i will not be posting much this week as i am STILL letterpress printing that big stack of paper! have a great week!

{above invitations feature all original hand drawn artwork}

workday wednesdays: paul aken & the platen press museum

“first it was a hobby, then it became a disease, and now it’s an obsession”, that’s what mr. paul aken, letterpress guru and owner of The Platen Press Museum – A working museum dedicated to preserving the arts of hot metal casting and composition, letterpress, multigraphing, stone lithography and bookbinding, said to my husband and i this past saturday. this was my second visit to the museum {my husband’s first} yet awe inspiring nonetheless. when you first walk in, this is what it reads…

and the past, it truly is. mr. aken’s collection is ridiculous {ridiculous, used in the slang way meaning good}. he has literally, hundreds of presses, in all different sizes, everywhere you turn.
he has big presses…
medium sized presses…
and teeny tiny presses…
he also has book presses…
dingbats galore…
cabinets and cabinets to the ceiling of type…
and so much more. we were actually there for a purpose, to get some assistance on one of my presses, but i wasn’t listening much. thank goodness that my husband listened to mr. aken because i was too busy drooling and taking photos. ahhhh… the platen press museum… good times.
i won’t be posting much this week, err or even maybe next week, as i have a lot of printing to do. fun!

etsy shop update: detour

{image taken from the web | source: blog.walkerinfo.com}

easter is in two days and in my imagination, the birds would be chirping, the sun shining, the weather warm, and my little online shop would be open for business with luscious letterpress goodies for the taking. that is not happening. instead, this is what is happening… 3 wedding invitation suites, 2 bridal shower invitations, and 1 first birthday party invites, but that is just as lovely as well… so my little etsy shop grand opening shall have to wait, but good things happen to those who wait. stay tuned for more shop updates!
